Kevin and I met in Queens, NY. Up until recently I always remembered us meeting amongst mutual friends Janet & Jay. Recently Kevin was looking at the site and said, " J & Janet didn't introduce us it was Michelle". I didn't believe him until I had the pleasure of talking to Mich... she then confirmed that it was infact true & that she should have been my maid of honor. LOL Mich .... girl I'm sorry. that role has been taken, but I will always have you to thank for introducing me to the love of my life.
As for me and Kevin We began to converse at social gatherings. I remember him driving me home from a party we had both attended. It was that night that he first asked me to attend another function with him. Of course, I said yes and so it began. On that date I was impressed by his mannerism. He was very attentive to my needs. I remember him going to the bathroom only to come back and find a guy trying to kick it to me. All I could do is laugh when he stood over in the corner watching me. I called it playing his position (him wanting to see how I would conduct myself in this situation). Not long after that we began going out planning dinner dates, etc.....
Months passed by and all went well. That winter we attended a New Years party that my oldest BFF (Venessa) thru. It was at that new years party that it was made official. Another one of my good friends was up visiting from VA, she was sitting an conversing with Kevin, you know getting to know him. She ended up asking him what his intentions were with me. We got into a heated discussion about love & relationships. When the smoke cleared, the birth of a new relationship was born.....
We’ve been inseparable from that point on and will soon be known as
Mr. & Mrs Kevin K Balam
So You think picking a wedding dress is hard, well choosing a bridesmaid dress is even harder. You have to try and keep it under a certain amount (especially Destination Weddings being that they are paying to come to your wedding) Then you need to be sure it will look nice/ compliment all of your ladies. This is hard work ladies................
I chose three different dresses for each girl and sent emails to them all. I told them to choose a gown that they would like. I thought I had it all under control until the dress shopping day. LOL First off one of my girls lives in another state and missed her bus into the city. Second, My maid of honor had a baptism to attend (she was super late, showing up after we (me and my sister) had already paid for parking and driving home. Thirdly, my other bridesmaids went out the night before and got wasted. She called me twenty minutes into our appointment saying she wasn't home and needed to go home shower and meet us. Let's just say these B*&^%$'s should be happy I'm not a BRIDZILLA. I wanted to scream, I had planned this thing for months. I even scheduled a luncheon for them. Waste of time........... We ended up shopping and having lunch by ourselves.
All was not lost, my sister (another bridesmaid) was the only one who showed up. It's funny because we chose her dresses and waited for a dressing room. I walked away from her and came back only for her to say. " I saw another dress but another woman has it in her hand" My response to her was Let me guess it has three colors? she said yes and we both laughed.... Great minds think alike.
It turns out it’s one of the dresses I originally wanted only I thought the girls would not like it.
So because she was the only one who showed up I allowed her to choose the dress for them all.
Bari Jay 100 in these same colors Shadow/ Wisteria/ Eggplant
This dress is simple yet elegent & looks great on them all. Not to mention very easy to tailor.
In the end they all got it together and ordered the dress.
I had this made f rom a seller on ETSY.com
I wanted something that would help bring out my dress.
I was so excited when I ordered it. When it arrived I began to double think it. You see I already purchased jewelry sets to decide from and neither one will match.
one set is diamonds & pearls (faux of course) lol the other is crystaled out bib with matching braclet & earrings. But the metal on all of them is vintage looking. Both re off from the sash. At first I decied to just sell the sash. I then went for my try on appointment and when the assistant put my sash on ..... let's just say all eyes on me LOL everyone was in awe of the dress & sash. One woman said that they both compliment each other quiet well.
So that was it. I decieded I did make a great choice after all. I will now be selling my jewels and will be looking for another set to match my new look.
I'm super excited about completing my wedding Jewels" as I like to call them. LOL
I purchased them from ebay for a great price. I purchased them from different sellers
Earrings are handmade Swarovski earrings by a http://myworld.ebay.com/elenamaratos/?_trksid=p4340.l2559
Bib & Cuff are both J Crew purchased on ebay from http://myworld.ebay.com/happybee89
My dress is simple so these pieces give me a little pizzazz. I also made my own brooch bouquet so my theme will be a little glitzy.
Thanks for looking.
So I went to my fitting tried my jewels of with my dress and it did not match with my sash. My dress is simple with a bit of flare from the sash. So back to the drawing board I went. I found this Givency set online for under $100. I believe we have a winner now.
I have to say Kevin rreally did a good job considering he picked it all by himself. I wanted something a little bigger, but this is love............... so I'm happy. Besides I got to pick my band and that one is trully the bomb... I can't wait to wear her.
The Magnets are a keep sake. They loved them very much. I got them from vistaprint.com for next to nothing
We gave our guest a number of things. A goody bag
The Albums are to be filled with pics from the trip
Hi ALL I got this idea from another Bee. I thought it was a great altenative to the traditional guest book (that nobody looks at after the wedding) LOL So you order your letter from http://www.craftcuts.com/
Pick your style, size and thickness. I chose an unpainted letter and painted it myself using BEHR Polor White semigloss paint. I purchased some fine tip Sharpies from Staples (for signing) & the Photo frame was purchased at my local Lotless discount store. THe wording again was taken from onw of our fellow Bee's.
I wish I remembered her name. Let me know what you think
We chose a Destination Wedding. It was much cheaper on our part and allowed us to keep our guest list down. We invited 75 people and chose Dreams Resort because of it's popularity & other amenities. It's all inclusive so our guest can be at ease once they have arrived. While doing my research I was given a few choices from our Travel Agent / friend of the family. She has more than 15 years in the business and told us what to look for and what not to do. This resort stuck out because of the kid activities and high reviews. We saw other resorts that seemed to be really high end but the cost was either to high or no children allowed.
Both of us have key people in our wedding party who have children that would be coming. I wanted them to enjoy themselves just as much as the adults. My mom says I'm nuts for caring about children on my day. Anyway, the resort is beautiful and has lots to do. The two features that had me hooked are the endless pool that intertwined the entire compound & the wedding gazebo. I love that gazebo to death. The minute I saw it I wanted to get married at it. (See photos)
We plan to stay for two weeks, Our wedding will be a weekend wedding (Friday thru Monday) so this will be our honeymoon as well. Most of our guest will be staying the weekend only. Our ceremony/reception will be on a Saturday. Out of 75 invited guest we have 46 confirmed and paid guest (not bad). We will be having a cocktail hour & reception at on the restaurants terraces that overlooking the ocean. The cost is very reasonable considering what we would have paid in the states.
This is what I call an "All for 1 Wedding" (everything all for one fee) LOL
We can't wait to be sitting pool side...............
