I met Mr. Candy_Nee about a year and a half ago. We had both just moved to Myrtle Beach, SC - me from Tennessee, he from North Carolina by way of Charleston. For those of you familiar with Myrtle Beach, you will know it's not know for it's classy locals or awesome young singles scene. Being new in town, and living in a glorified retirement village, I fell victim to clever advertising. Having just returned from a trip home to be the MOH in my best friend's wedding, I was feeling a bit lonely. I had moved to SC for work and to escape that bad relationship that just wouldn't go away. Then, the eHarmony commercial came on. It convinced me it was "ok to look" (Ok, I realize that's Match.com's tag line, but I like it better!). I thought, like most twenty-something's - that it was for 40 year old divorcee's. But, having always been an impulse buyer, I gave in. Besides, it was supposed to be a free trial. So, after doing some soul searching, and figuring it was just one month and 60 bucks, I gave in. For the first few days, I realized that not only was it for 40 year old divorcee's, it was for weirdos who live in their mother's basement. Then, after only 4 days, I was matched with HIM. He was cute, had a good job, funny. We went through the steps very quickly - we were matched on Thursday and had our first date on Friday.
Things moved pretty quickly from there. He moved in with me about 2 months later, and 8 months after that we were engaged.
About me:
I'm 26, a complete neat freak, still have no idea what I want to be when "I grow up", I love sushi and drinking champagne, if I could read all day every day I'd die a happy lady, I'm a family person, love to be out doors but hate doing "out-doorsy" activities, prefer the lake to the beach, love sappy movies that make me cry, I'm terrified of birds.
About him:
He's 25, a total slob, still has no idea what he wants to be when he "grows up", is a self proclaimed foodie, drinks PBR and expensive beer - nothing in between, forces me to try new food and experiences, has ADD that keeps me on my toes, prefers action movies, could play his video games all day every day and die a happy man, loves to be out doors and do "out-doorsy" activities, thinks it's funny that I'm terrified of birds.
Ahhh, my lovely bridesmaids. I love them so.
Matron of Honon - Jessica - My BFF since college. She hates being called the "matron", she has even offered both her husband and her ring to the Maid of Honor just to have the title! When Jess and I first met through my former high school BFF, we didn't really hit it off. After a few months, and discovering a mutual dislike for said former BFF (what great friendship isn't based on a mutual dislike?), we became fast friends and roomies. We spent the rest of college having a blast and having all sorts of adventures together. When she got married a year and a half ago, I was her MOH, and my speech went something like "John, she may be your wife now, but she's been my wife for the past 5 years..."
Maid of Honor - Krista - My BFF since 8th grade. Krista and I have had one of those amazing friendships that have lasted the test of time. We've grown up, but not apart. No matter how long we go without talking, I know we can pick up right where we left off. She's an amazing person.
Bridesmaid - Kelsey - One of 2 little sisters. Although, as she's 19 and considerably taller than me, she's not so little any more. Kelsey came along after 7 years of me being the youngest child. Ah, those 7 years were blissful. Then along she came, interrupting my games of house and Barbie so she could have her naps. Her being the tom boy, and me being a bit of a priss, she tended to gravitate toward our brother growing up. Now, having out grown that, she and I are much closer. Plus, she's tall and skinny and is going to look amazing in her bridesmaid dress!! :)
Bridesmaid - MacKenzie - two of 2 little sisters. Again, almost grown and taller than me, not so little. Mickey and I have always been closer. She, like me, was a priss growing up. Being 9 years older than her, I loved to dress her up, curl her hair, and put make up on her. Being the little sister, she loved to let me. She's grown into quite the lovely young lady.
Bridesmaid - Nicki - I met Nicki in college while working at the same restaurant. She and I became fast friends. We call eachother "fave" - as in "you're my favorite person ever!" Even after she moved away and had her adorable daughter, we've remained super close. And, she's still one of my most favorite people ever!
Bridesmaid - Jen - I met Jen while working in the same restaurant in college. Jen and I became much closer after that lovely job. About a year after graduating college, Jen got me a new job and a new home - both with her! You'd think living and working with the same person would take it's toll, but not us. With the exception of a few sassy spats, we became closer than ever. And, I couldn't imagine this day without her!
