THE STORY OF US » Who We Are » Like peas & carrots!

posted 4 months ago

Hello hive :) My name is Sara and my fiance's name is Jon. Although I've been stalking WB since early April, I really didn't have much to post about my own engagement and planning until---well, 2 1/2 weeks ago (06-14-09)! So, for a few introductions...

I'm 27 years old, originally from Kansas (yes, I'm a yellow brick road/Dorothy girl). I live in the Denver area and work for a police department as an Office Specialist to the Special Investigations Unit. I enjoy crafting, reading blogs (a lot!), taking dance classes at the gym (shimmy shimmy!), would love to take KravMaga on a regular basis, like to hike, foods I love: any kind of berries, Red Vines licorice, asparagus, chicken salads, Cucumber Ranch by Kraft, vegetable lasagna and brats--boy do I eat poorly! Of course my time spent with Jon is laying on the back of his flat bed '78 Ford, under a sleeping bag and blankets and just looking at the stars while we snuggle and talk into the night. I know, I sound so cheesy(!) but we do that!

A little about Jon, he's 25, a very talented mechanic with so many specialized certificates under his belt to keep up to date on I don't know how he does it! He loves his truck, has big plans to overhaul the GTO he has currently sitting in his parent's garage and would eat peanut butter sandwiches (minus the jelly!) every meal if I let him! Not only is he good with autos, he can cook very well without a recipe (I need one), makes amazing wood furniture and I swear he is a jack of all trades. The man can fix anything! During this wedding planning time he always mentions ways to incorporate a truck, somehow/someway. We'll see what I can do to put a truck in the day somehow ;) Oh, and he's also very good at making me feel better when I'm clumsy and stub my baby toes on anything and everything---he's a sweetheart!

The other member of our household, and very much a part of our daily lives, is Chester, my 4 1/2 year old Cockapoo. Chester truly is the entertainment of the house! Since he's part Cocker Spaniel, he really does show it with the long/floppy ears with wavy hair. The rest of his body has just enough curl to it and his tail looks like a small pom-pom that dances around almost every minute of the day. He's all black in color with a small patch of white on his chin that looks like a goatee. Oh, and it's too cute, the little guy also has a snaggle tooth that will bring a smile to anyone's face!

So, there you have it, a little bit about me, Jon and my furry son (Jon's adopted furry son)! As for the "peas and carrots" bit, ever since the first month of Jon and I dating my mom has described our relationship to friends and family just like that. We go together like peas and carrots!

THE STORY OF US » How We Met » Almost missed him

Over the past several years, I will admit, I had been online to eHarmony and Match.com trying to find someone. Yeah, those panned out not so well! A coworker, at the beginning of August '08, suggested I got on Chemistry.com because they were offering a free trial period membership to our area. At first I was reluctant because I never had success before and really didn't feel like going through the process again.

I did end up signing up. I met a few guys but they weren't "it" and I decided at the end of the membership for the 30 days I would cancel. One week before my membership would either renew or I had to cancel, I clicked the "cancel membership" button and was pleased I was not going to spend $50 again! That soon changed...

On September 1, 2008 I was sitting down at my computer (only two days before my profile would be erased) and I had a new guy waiting in my list of ones who fit my interests. His name was Jon. Jon was a cutie! Not only were his selection of photos available great (he included one of his dog with a Christmas bow on her head!), but they showed his amazing smile and I liked him from the beginning. Then I started to read his profile. The man had complete sentences, no references to be "amazing in bed" (jeez!) like some guys were trashy enough to write about, and he listed what he desired in a woman and his interests were some of the same I enjoyed. I was interested, very interested and then I freaked out a little---what if he doesn't get the email I was interested in talking with him and then my membership is gone?! AHH!!! I immediately clicked on the button to show I was interested and hoped he wrote back soon. He did, five minutes later :) Thank the heavens!

We literally went through the various question phases within an hour. It was email after email from Chemistry telling that "Jon has replied to your questions, go see what he had to say!" eeeeee!!!! Once we finally got to the email portion through Chemistry's website, I told him I was excited to talk with him more and provided him my email address asking him to keep that in case my profile disappeared in the next few days.

Just before I went to bed I received a very nice and long email from Jon. I was smitten!

Over the next two days we exchanged multiple emails and my excitment just grew and grew. I wanted to talk to the boy and soon! The third night we talked via MSN Messenger for four hours, and just before we logged off he asked if he could call me sometime. YESSSS!!!!

The fourth day I received a phone call from a number I did not recognize---my heart skipped a few beats and I answered the phone. "Hello Sara, this is Jon. How are you?" His voice was gorgeous! He has a very deep voice and I smiled probably as big as I could when I said hello and said I was doing well. We later joked how for the first several times he called me he always said the same thing, "Hello Sara, this is Jon. How are you?" He was so nervous and formal at the beginning of the conversations and eventually loosened up a bit. I found out that same day that his birthday was September 1st....the day we first exchanged emails on Chemistry :D

For the next three days we would talk every night for about three to four hours and I was having the best time. That Saturday I participated in the Susan G. Komen Race and he texted me off and on throughout the day and when I returned home we literally talked the entire day until 11pm. For a shy guy he was really coming around and had no problem carrying on conversations to no end. That same day he asked if he could take me out sometime and of course I said yes. Our first date was September 9th, 2008.

The date was wonderful, he brought me lilies, we had our first kiss overlooking Colorado Springs and I knew he was a man far different than any guy I've ever dated. We have never gone a day without speaking, nor have we gone a weekend without seeing each other. Although our long distance relationship wasn't too far of a distance (40 minutes) it still stunk to not see him for dinner whenever I wanted to. As of late March '09 I have lived with him and I continue to commute to Colorado Springs for work....and I wouldn't have it any other way.
