THE STORY OF US » The Proposal » Disneyland Proposal

posted 2 years ago

We met through mutual friends at Disneyland on May 5, 2005 (Disneyland's 50th anniversary!), but after we moved to San Francisco in 2007 so I could attend law school, our visits to Disneyland were few and far between.

So we were both really excited to spend a couple of days there after Valentine's Day, 2008.  FI got us a beautiful room overlooking California Adventure at the Grand Californian.  I had a slight inkling that he might propose but the first day, we had a great time exploring the park, eating at Naples (our favorite restaurant in Downtown Disney), and watching the fireworks - and there was no proposal, so I thought "phew, now I don't need to get nervous about him proposing on this trip - I can just relax, and maybe we'll get engaged a few months down the road!"  At about 3 am, I woke up and found FI sitting on the couch in our room, playing sudoku.  He said he was having trouble sleeping and he didn't want to wake me.  I shrugged and went back to sleep, thinking nothing of it at the time...

The next morning, we got up early and went to meet my best friend and her husband for a day of fun in the Park.  They had never seen the special "brick" that FI had bought for us at the entrance to Disneyland, so we headed over to it to show them.  My friend got out her camera to snap a picture of us kneeling by the brick, and then I stood up.  But FI remained kneeling.  And before I knew what was happening, he asked me to marry him!  My first words were "Are you serious?" I couldn't believe it! I thought for sure that he would have proposed to me the day before, at dinner or the fireworks!  As he put the ring on my finger and kissed me, my friend and her husband continued to take pictures, and a bunch of people walking by clapped and cheered.  And who should walk out of the crowd but FI's mom and dad, whom he had flown all the way from New Jersey just to be there!

It was a lovely day, and that night, we all had a wonderful dinner, with my dad and stepmom joining us.

I can't wait to revisit our brick -and think back on FI's loving proposal -  when we get married at Disneyland this July!

CLOTHING » Wedding Dress » My Carolina Herrera Daisies Gown

posted 2 years ago

I bought this gown in August, 2008 at Vows Bridal in Massachusetts.  While the dress originally retails for over $8,000, Vows is a boutique that collects sample dresses, and sells them at a significant discount.  I was lucky enough to scoop this dress up for $1,500!  It's a size 10 which I've had altered to fit my size 6 frame.  It has a fitted bodice, with two strips of satin ribbon under the bust and at the waist, a ribbon bow in the back, and a flowing skirt composed of many layers of tulle, with quite a long train when un-bustled.  The top layer of tulle has millions of small daisies embroidered on it.

This is the perfect dress for our Sunday mid-morning rose garden wedding at Disneyland!
