HB and HG first met at a summer party. Both arrived at the party in a town next to them via mutual friends. The party was located in a neighboring town to both HG and HB .. so it was just around the corner for both of them. It was your typical "college" summer party with lots of new friends meeting for the first time. High school and college worlds colliding. HB & HG were introduced and spent some time together sharing a summer cocktail ... though HB thought that since he arrived with a girl that the two of them were dating! By the end of the night it was clear that HG was not only single but had his eye on HB. They chatted and flirted and parted ways without an exchange of information. Within a few months they were back at school and the Boston College versus Virginia Tech rivalry gave HG the excuse to send HB an instant message online ... the long online conversations turned into long late night phone calls which lasted the rest of the fall and into winter vacation where they decided they had to spend some time together.

Our first attempt at dating lasted only a few short months but a solid relationship was made. While we were both home over our winter breaks we spent a good amount of time with each other including dinners, movies, and even a fateful day of skiing. Both returned to school and set a plan for HB to visit Virginia Tech. After a short time of "long distance" and a fun weekend of visiting, they realized that the timing wasn't right and that a friendship might be a better idea given that they lived 697 miles apart! Throughout their college careers they stayed in touch and kept each other up to date on their lives, their friends, and their families. They ended up seeing each other a few more times while HG was visiting other friends at BC.

Fast forward two years when HB and her doctor decided that it was time that she had her tonsils removed .... the morning of February 6th. Upon returning from the hospital HB's mom checked the mail to find a gift in the mailbox for HB. HG had spent the better part of 45 minutes trying to remember how to get to HB's house in order to drop off what ended up being the catalyst to HB & HG take two: Season Two of The O.C. - one of HB(and HG's!) favorites TV shows. HB proceeded to watch the entire collection over the next few weeks while recovering and waiting for HG to return from one of his many business trips.

And the rest ... is history!

A little more then two years later on HG's 26th birthday he was given the best gift of all - a Nintendo Wii!!! HB had planned a nice dinner for the two of them down at a fancy restaraunt near HB's parents beach house. They had planned to spend the afternoon at the beach and head out for an early dinner reservation. On the way down HG insisted on stopping at Best Buy in order to buy more controllers for the Wii even though it was only the two of us and it came with two! (Clearly HB was out of the loop!) The two slowly got ready for their dinner and when HB had finally dried her hair and was asking when they would get on the road -- HG popped down on TWO (he really meant it) knees and proposed with some of the sweetest words neither of us can remember (it was overwhelming!). HB said yes, and shook, and cried a little, and said yes again, and of course took a million pictures. Then she grabbed her phone to call anyone and everyone - when HG stopped her. He told her that he had planned for the two of them to have dinner at a local restaurant with a bottle of champagne and everything. He wanted them to have a few hours to enjoy being engaged and that we could have the whole night to call our family and friends. HB reluctantly said okay and stated "My mother is going to kill you!" ... Little did she know that 25 of their closest family and friends were waiting for them at the restarant! HG picked a menu full of seafood (HB's favorite!) and amazing ceasar salad. He organzied an incredible "after party" back at the beach house where each and every guest arrived hands full of something - champagne, balloons, flower, beer, wine, food, and of course cake! It was the best night of either of their lives - so far at least!
