Those really are some of the pet names we call each other, in case you were wondering.
Taco met her Burrito when she interned at his job while she was in college, 6 years ago. Burrito has since taken over the business where they met, and can currently be classified as a small business owner who likes to have fun and cuddle. Taco graduated college and can be classified as an engineer who combats her boredom with the 9-5 deal by moonlighting as an artist/crafty person...and who also likes to cuddle.
We both work very hard and love to spend weekends relaxing with eachother, going for drives, sitting on our porch at 3am just watching the stars and talking about existential humanism and stuff. We love to cook new things together, and he dutifully tries my experiments if I can hide all the onion. True to our names he prefers burritos and I prefer tacos. We both love animals and would really like a cat but our landlord sucks so we remain catless.
He likes Johnny Walker and I like Franziskaner, and we both like Bailey's.
If you've gotten this far thanks for reading, and stay tuned for the full story of how Taco and Burrito met.
As you've previously read - Taco met Burrito when she did an internship at his workplace. Burrito was very shy and aloof when it came to girls back then having just gone through a messy breakup. In fact, he went out of his way to avoid the adorably energetic Taco and left her thinking she smelled funny or something. After a few weeks Burrito warmed up enough to let Taco observe him as he worked so that she could learn from him as she was with his coworkers, which was the premise of the internship.
Through this mentor/pupil type of setup, Taco and Burrito eventually began talking about things other than work, and became friendly with each other. Apparently it is around this time that Burrito began to think Taco was an interesting, rather cute and potentially tasty. Taco thought Burrito was cute, but wasn't sold on anything past friendship.
One day Burrito asked Taco if she knew anyone who could braid his hair (it was long back then). Taco volunteered to do it herself, and invited him over to the apartment she was sharing with her best friend. Taco had a lot of fun doing Burrito's hair, and having good conversation with him outside of work. He got along good with her friend, was polite and gracious, and left Taco with a warm fuzzy feeling after he left.
After that first 'date', Taco and Burrito hung out a lot, spent more and more time working with each other at the job, and the warm fuzzies spread. A sunrise was watched, 2 hour conversations conversated, kisses shared. Taco was nervous about dating someone she worked with. Being the only girl at the place, she didn't want to start a bad situation that would wear out her welcome. After a lot of encouragement from her friend, she and Burrito made it official that they were dating.
There have been many trials, many tribulations since this first declaration. 5 years of our relationship was long-distance and incredibly difficult. However, we have stayed true to each other and are now embarking on that next step in our lives together.
Thanks for reading.
Yes, the Taco asked the Burrito to marry her. Shocking, yes yes as everyone has told her. The truth is Taco couldn't see herself being with anyone other than her loving Burrito, with his spicy and tender filling wrapped in a soft, comforting exterior. He was her match, and there was no sense in delaying the inevitable. Sure they had spoken about marriage, they both seemed happy with the idea, but neither had made it official.
So one lazy Sunday afternoon, after a weekend of cuddling and bonding and just generally adorable stuff-Taco popped the question while they were both lazing on the couch. There was no clichéd dramatic moment with heart-stopping scenery and down on one knee with a tearful declaration or any of that noise. It was a sincere question. She could feel Burrito's heart race, there was a terrible pause and Taco thought about how awful it would be if he turned her down. But of course, Burrito said yes, and Taco was happy.
Later Burrito would admit to Taco that he wished she had waited a few months as he was saving up for a ring and had intended to ask her in the traditional way. He would also admit that he couldn't believe how lucky he was that a girl asked him to marry her. Apparently this is quite a few guys' secret dream. Whatever floats your boat I suppose, I just don't see the appeal in not asking your partner for their hand simply because you are the woman. If you are in a relationship that is sturdy enough to weather a marriage it shouldn't matter who asks the question, but that the question be asked at all. The relationship had been through many incredible highs and excrutiating lows, spanned 6 years, and had changed both participants for the better in many ways.
It's a funny love story but it's our funny love story. I wouldn't have it any other way.
