THE STORY OF US » Who We Are » About the Bunnies

posted 2 years ago

Mr. Bunny and I are reporters for competing newspapers!

Needless to say, the competitive dynamic makes for an interesting romantic relationship. We’ve had to keep strict rules about not discussing work before our Tuesday afternoon deadlines.

OK, honestly, it’s mostly my fault. I’m the competitive one.

Fortunately, Mr. Bunny is much more laid back than little ol’ me. He’s a country boy who likes to hunt, watch movies and sing karaoke. He’s only been on a plane once in his life — the second time will be for our honeymoon!

I, on the other hand, am a military brat (Coast Guard, in case you’re wondering). I spent junior high and high school in the D.C. ’burbs before my parents moved back to Columbus, which is their hometown. After four years at college in Kentucky, I moved to Buckeye country (holla, Mrs. Quiche and Mr. Yorkie!) and got a job. I’ve been here ever since.

I love to bake, craft, browse antique stores, and spend lots of time with friends and family.

Mr. Bunny and I met through work. We’re reporters who write for competing weekly newspapers, so we got to know each other at school board meetings and at parties with mutual friends.

Out with work friends, May 2008

My first memory of Mr. B was when we were both sent out to cover a tornado and he tried to butt in on my interview with a Red Cross worker!

In November 2007, I was recovering from the second breakup with the only serious boyfriend I'd ever had. I had fallen in love with him all over again only to have him decide once more that I just wasn't the one.

In two weeks, it will have been one year since that night when someone turned to me and told me I should date Mr. Bunny.

Out with friends on New Year's Eve we shared our first kiss (which, by his insistence, is OUR anniversary, as well).

Cold weather will always remind me of the feeling of newness and excitement. Of frustration, at first, at not telling him how I felt and wondering whether or not he liked me. The uncertainty of knowing what would happen next and the hoping for some kind of sign.

And then after we kissed, of whether or not he would text, whether he wanted to see me. Of sitting on his old sofa and feeling my stomach flip when he spontaneously reached out and grabbed my hand. Seeing him with his parents for the first time and realizing there was so much more to him -- more that I wanted to get to know.

I look back on who we were in the last cold snap, when we finally managed to get snowed in together in the March storm, and realize how far we've come. I know Mr. Bunny so much better now than I knew him then, and he knows me.

I have had my share of worries and anxieties and doubts, but the thing that reassures me more than anything is this: Our past is so, so sweet. It's a string of pearls, and I want to keep adding them up, one by one by one.

We spent an afternoon in the Westerville Public Library with our photographer Julian Allen for our engagement photos!

I think the snow falling during this pic makes it look positively magical. Yes, I was freezing cold, thank you for asking.

His manly steel toed “cowboy” boots, my cute purple wedges from Target.

It was only slightly awkward to lie on the library floor for this shot. This is one of the copycat poses we did.

Here we’re recreating Miss Taffy’s record store shoot… only we’re looking at books. If you’re wondering about the look on my face, it’s because the book Mr. B is pointing to is titled Virgin. ;)

I am SO GLAD I decided to go with my gut and wear this dress for the second half of the shoot. It looks fabulously vintage glam, I think, and it’s one of our wedding colors!

I love the shots, but in some of them I feel like Mr. Bunny is a prop to make me look better. ( Where’s my man’s cute face?

Oh, I found it!

Ain’t he a sweetie?

And finally, my favorite:

Why yes, we do make out in the stacks on a regular basis!

DETAILS » Save The Dates » Bunny's E-mailed STDs

I spent a long time designed backs for postcard Save the Dates in InDesign(see tutorial here), but ended up dragging my feet so much that instead I e-mailed out STDs to select family and friends.

The picture is from a vintage postcard I purchased on ebay.
