We are pretty typical mid-20's midwesterners who are still finishing school. Mr. Rabbit is a lean, handsome, hyper-intelligent forgetful professor type who's into history, classical studies (Latin and Ancient Greek), philosophy, reading, movies, biking, and...did I mention Latin? The man is a language freak, with Latin being his favorite. I waver between annoyance at the constant language lessons and sappiness that he loves me enough to try to share his passions with me. Mr. Rabbit plans to get his PhD in Classics and become a professor at a university somewhere someday.
I an into modern history, africology, women's studies, and LGBT studies, reading, sewing, nutrition, working out (in a bizare 3rd person kind of way), animals, gardening, movies, and certain tv programs. Mr. Rabbit has 1.5-2 years left of his undergraduate, since he's double majoring and double minoring and I was supposed to graduate in May (even walked the stage!), but complications due to computers arose and I am back for 1 more semester (grduating in Dec. 09). I am a DIYer of old, having been forced into it to protect my possesions from my mother's atrocious sewing skills and insistence that she could sew anything (she can't sew even a button). I am mostly self taught when it comes to sewing, crafting, kniting, and home projects. My life plans mirror Mr. Rabbits in that i plan to eventually get my PhD in history and/or Women's Studies and become a professor. We diverge in that I also plan to write books. :)
Mr. Rabbit and I share co-habitation with our house rabbit named Pigathy, or Mr. Pig as we call him since he is an old (12+ years!) and dignified rabbit. We also have 2 fish named Orbo and Alufishus.
This is Mr. Pig. He's adorable, isn't he?
And here we have Orbo (the goldfish) and Alufishus (the sucker fish).
Who are you?
Mr. Rabbit and I did not meet in the conventional way. We did not meet at work, school, a comunity organization, a bar, event, festival, or party. Mr. R and I met online at the website OkCupid.com. He sent me a message, I sent one back, and a month later (only because I spent 2 out of the 4 weeks out of the country on vacation) we made our first date. I was actually uncertain about meeting him because I was having a bad week, but my good friend talked me into it and I thank her all the time for this!.
We met in person on the 3rd floor of our universities student union where we were meeting to catch a free showing of the zombie movie <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Shaun of the Dead. I thought he was drop dead gorgeous and spent very little of our first hours talking (here, the awesome movie helped!). After the movie let out, we grabbed Jimmy John's subs and retired to my apartment where we talked until dawn, only stopping because he had to leave for work.
How did you meet your sweetie?
The bridal party is pretty small- 2 women. This is purposeful. The idea of dealing with tons of girls was too much, as well as the thought that a small wedding should be balanced out by a small wedding party.
My maid of honor was super easy- my older sister. In the last 14 months I have questioned this decision frequently and think on some levels its a mistake, but she's my sister and I love her. Plus, I was the maid of honor at both her weddings.
My "regular" bridesmaid is my friend Lisa, who would have been maid of honor if I didn't have a sister. Of all my friends, she calls the most (despite being over 1,000 miles away) and is always there to talk to when I need to talk. I deeply appreciate that.
I wondered if my FI would follow suit and name his brother as his bestman. He surprised everyone but me by naming his best friend as best man instead! I thinik, in the end, he made the best choice.
Best man is my FI's long time best friend, Collins. Sometimes I like the guy, other times he annoys the poop out of me, but he always makes my sweets happy when they hang out so he's good people in my book.
Next is my FI's younger brother (who lost out to Collins for best man). Him being in the wedding party surprises no one, since my FI and his brother are thick as thieves. I am not the happiest with him being included, as he is frequently rude and down right mean to me, but my FI loves his younger brother and insists he stays, so he does.
What was surprising to me was my FI's choice for his 3rd groomsman- my younger brother John! I knew my FI was a keeper when my brother, who was usually standoffish with my exs, gave him a huge seal of approval. My FI and my brother often hang out and have turned out to be pretty good friends. Makes me all warm and gushy inside! It does break my heart however that my brother may not be able to attend my wedding. He is a finalist for a job in Japan which would make it impossible for him to return for my wedding. While I am over joyed that he is following his dreams and on the verge of seeing them come true, it breaks my heart that my little brother, who means the world to me, won't be there to see me get married.
My parents will be in attendance. My mom will be coming down with her new husband the 6+ hours from where they live in Northern Wisconsin and my dad will be driving the 3 hours from where he lives in Central Wisconsin. My maternal grandparents will also be in attendance, arriving from Central Wisconsin several days early since my grandmother has kindly offered to help with last minute details. My father's parents died when he was a child (his father at 7 and his mother at 10). We are inviting my Great Aunt Adel, who raised my father from age 10, but her husband, my Great Uncle Red, died in January due to cancer which had spread to all his organs and Aunt Adel doesn't drive. We're still working on a way to bring her down to the wedding comfortably.
On my FI's side of things, his parents live here in town and have been an immense help planning this wedding. His maternal grandmother also lives in town and she will be in attendance. His paternal grandparents will be driving up from Northern Illinois and are very excited to attend their grandchild's wedding!
The ring bearer will be my nephew Kien. I'm so excited to see him in a little version of the suit or tux the groomsmes end up wearing! How cute!
We are forgoing the flower girl partly because we don't want one and partly because we know no little girls. We are blessed and cursed with an overabundance of little boys in our life, but not a single little girl.
I have to say, my wedding dress just takes my breath away, and I've not even met it yet! I found my wedding dress on etsy back in September. She was beautiful- simple yet stunning lines, a skirt to drool over, with these little straps... *sigh* I sat on my dress for FOUR MONTHS, messaging back and forth with the designer. Asking millions of questions. I was worried that, without trying it on, I had no idea if it'd look good on me. I had never tried a mermaid dress on before. So I went on a month long search to find a mermaid dress in my size (18) in my area. Sadly, it was a no go. It really broke my heart to think I might have to let the perfect dress slip away because no one seems to think mermaid dresses ought to be worn by curvy women! Then, the seller CiciBridal, had a Holiday sale. 20% all their gowns if purchased before Christmas! I took this as a sign this dress was meant to be mine and pounced. I am SO glad I did! My dress will custom cut and sewn to my measurements in Ivory with a built-in bustle (a small extra fee) and a more sweetheart shaped neckline.

I found an amazing deal on my Bridesmaid dress at Target- $40 a piece! The material is thick, very rich feeling, and the dress looks fitted. With the pearl jewelery i gave my BMs for Christmas and a possible change out for a yellow sash, I think my girls will look stunning in these simple, yet elegant looking dresses.
The front of the dress:

and the back looks like so:

i think I'd want to add a yellow sash such as in this picture:

I have a confession to make- I am totally and utterly obsessed with sailboats. I love them! Not only that, but I LOVE nautical colors- blue, white, red, yellow. I love the beach, large lakes, the ocean, and anything to do with any of the above. If I could, I would live in a house on a private beach with a dock full of sailboats. So, as you can imagine, our wedding is nautical themed, with Navy and white our primary colors and hints of red and yellow strewn throughout to give everything a slightly more jaunty feel.
