THE STORY OF US » Who We Are » The Upstaters

posted 1 year ago

My name is Amanda and I am a Hydroelectric Planner for a private engineering firm, sounds like a smarty pants job but in reality I just play a good part! Kevin is my fiance and is a Corrections Officer for the local county jail. We currently live in Upstate NY, kind of in the bermuda triangle between Albany, Saratoga, and Utica. Saying I am obsessed with hockey is putting it lightly...I am slowly turning him! And I love the Buffalo Sabres, I mean what other kind of hockey is there? We both love the outdoors and in the summer you will catch us hiking and camping any chance we get. In the winter we ice fish while he's all about hunting. We are country folks at heart but play the role of civilized city dwellers when the time is right! We can't get enough of sushi or crappy reality tv shows (maybe more me than him) and we love traveling throughout the country when ever we can scrape up some extra cash.

Both the FI and I love fall, and wanted to take our engagement pictures during our favorite season. On October 24, which was a dreary day, we headed out. You can't even tell from the pictures that it had rained all morning! Our photographers from Sawicki Studios are amazing, and it made for a great experience.

CLOTHING » Wedding Dress » My Wedding Dress: Allure #8708

A little less than 3 months after we were engaged I started to get the "itch!" he itch to go and try and beautiful gowns in hope of finding the one! We started off by going to the infamous David's with my mother, future mother-in-law, aunt, and MOH in tow. I had pictures form their website from which I was sure I was going to find it. The trip was very disappointing. Not only was the service horrible, I had about four different people helping me asking me the same questions over and over again, and I wasn't really thrilled about any one dress. Yes, some were beautiful but none felt like me.

We went on to a different bridal store in the area and I tried on gorgeous dresses but I didn't get "the feeling." Maybe it's from watching too many wedding dress shows where the bride tries on this dress and she begins crying and the family begins crying and she just knows that that is it! Yeah....not getting that. My mom cried when I tried on this one satin off the shoulder dress but in the back of my mind it wasn't happening.

A week later my mom and I went alone to another bridal store. I finally came to terms that I was just going to pick a pretty dress that my mom liked and that was going to be that. I tried on a similar dress that she liked in the other store. Then the consultant brought IT out. I tried this dress on and like a light bulb something inside me went off. It was elegant, timeless, and made me glow! This is it...the dress that will make the day! Allure #8708 in Diamond white.

I designed these puppies and then ordered them on Vistaprint. When they arrived I trimmed them a little and round corner punched the edges. We decided to send them out as postcards to save money on stamps since we had to send out almost 100.
