I have been searching for the perfect jewelry to go with my dress for what seems like ages now! I LOVE a lot of sparkle, but my dress isn’t blingy at all, and neither is our venue. I didn’t want to wear my basic pearl studs (a birthday gift from Mr. Gloss) since I wear those almost everyday, anyway. I wanted something a little more special and had the hardest time finding it!

I finally found the perfect accesories from Cindy V Designs on Etsy - they have pearls AND crystals to add just the perfect amout of shine. I purchased the earrings, a necklace and bracelet.

Setting the scene:

Mr. Gloss and I had been house hunting for a little while, so each day at work Mr. Gloss would send me links to properties he liked to see what I thought.

The night before ’E-Day’ he told me we were going out to with some friends downtown (Boston) to celebrate the fact that two of our friends had just finished their first year of graduate school. I work downtown, so I will usually just hang out in the city rather than go back to our apartment and then turn around and head right back in; therefore, I usually wear something work/night appropriate.

How it happened:

At about 3:00 on ’E-Day’ (which was a Friday), I got an email with a link to a property. I clicked on it and while scrolling through the pictures, I recognized a few of them as ones we had taken together at a park we used to work at growing up. The last image had directions to meet him at the end of Long Wharf in Boston. So I walked (maybe a little quickly) to the wharf, and there he was, standing there waiting for me. All I can really remember after that was this:

Me: “Hi”

Him: “Hi… do you want to be embarrassed?”

Me: “Um… no, not really”

At this point he pulled me behind one of the brick pillars so we were hidden from the view of everyone hanging out on the wharf, and proposed. I cried. The ring was huge (note: plastic rings at Target are not good indicators of actual ring size), and my hands were shaking. He had made dinner plans at Mare, an Italian restaurant in the North End, so we walked towards the restaurant. I’m pretty sure I didn’t stop looking at my ring the whole time. So we ate good food, drank good wine, and obviously followed it with gelato. mmmmm. When we arrived back at our apartment, he had a bottle of wine he had been saving since he had come to visit me when I lived in Italy . So we relaxed with more delicious wine and called our parents and told them the good news!

When searching for the all important bridal shoe, I had the additional challenge of having to find the perfect F L A T S (easier said that done)! I bought (and returned) numerous pairs before finding the perfect wedding shoe: Patent Leather Lemon Yellow Cole Haan Piper Ballet flats

They are yellow. They are Cole Haan (whom I have had a longstanding and unabashed love affair with for years). They are flat. *Swoon* You can read the whole story here (it was one of my most favorite experiences this far!)

Getting married outside in Maine presents some interesting potential weather related challenges - so I also picked up these cute little 'Wedding Wellies' and cannot wait to wear them under my dress!

I designed and printed our Save the Dates as a vintage ticket to match our vintage steamship venue.

I cut the basic shape (and anchor) using a laser cutter and printed them using a gocco.

We attached magnets to the back for easy 'fridge reminding'. Our guests loved them (and most thought they were the actual invitation), some asked if they needed to 'bring the ticket to get on the boat' :)

You can read the full DIY tutorial here.

When Mr. Gloss and I first started researching venues, we really wanted something on the water. The Maine coast was quickly ruled out due to costs. However, once we realized that we were going to end up spending a good chunk of change no matter what, we decided to try and make it the most memorable we could for our guests! We ultimately selected the S.S. Katahdin, which is a 100 year-old steamship which runs on Moosehead Lake in Greenville, Maine. We will travel out for about half an hour, hold our ceremony and host our cocktail hour on the return trip-

When we get back to the dock we will have a tent set up adjacent to the dock for dinner and dancing!

Mr. Gloss and I are small-town Mainers (yes, that is what we call ourselves, except if you throw in the Maine accent it sounds like ‘main-ahs’) and are planning a ‘semi-destination’ wedding back home from our present location in Boston. We have been dating since I was a sophmore in high school, and will have been together almost a decade by the time we actually tie the knot!

For 6 of those years we were separated by different states, and for about 6 months, a different continent. We have been able to make our ‘long-distance’ relationship work because we knew, very early on, that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together (although no one takes you seriously when are 15 and say that!) and that if this is what we wanted, we could make it work.

Being together for such a long time has given a very practical edge to our wedding planning. It is more important to us to have a down payment for a house, than one perfect day (although I want them both)!
