thank you! :-) funny enough- my family was planning a trip to Disney World and FI was coming with. we would be there on my 21st birthday. i actually TOLD him not to propose then. Not because it wouldn't have been perfect but because i saw it coming. he is SO bad at keeping secrets. i think thats why he chose to propose as soon as i got back so he wouldn't give it away :-P

That is an adorable proposal! I love anything to do with airports! They're such happy reunion places, and even better when the reunion comes with a surprise engagement ring! Congrats!

My now FI and I have been together since we were 15. We spent about two weeks apart that summer between me being gone at a tennis camp and his wrestling camp. Since then, we've never spent an entire week apart. This isn't because we are crazy-clingy or anything, it just sort of worked out that way. So when I decided to go to London for a month last summer I realized that I was crazy clingy... Maybe not completely but all of the sudden I realized a month felt like an ETERNITY.

Oh london, I love ye.

Thanks to technology, we got to skype, email and even use my roomies Magic Jack (If you've seen the infomercials, it REALLY is that cool. But I digress....)

So after a month of being away, I was SO excited to finally see him! But, it turned out his dental convention started the NEXT morning so he wouldn't be able to be at the airport. If he came he would have had to leave super early in the morning which I told him he didn't need to do. What was one more week? (Besides FOREVER)

So, after the long, drug-induced flight (I'm a fairly nervous flyer, thanks Mom.) I was exhausted. My dear friend gave me some Nyquil on top of my flying candies so I probably would have slept on the luggage belt. However, I was SO excited to see my family! As soon as I got my bags I headed out and saw my parents and sister. To be honest I was hoping FI would surprise me but understood when I didn't see him.

After all the hugs, guess who walks out from behind a big giant pillar?

So I'm all "What are you doing here??"

And he's all "Hi..." *Get's down on one knee" "Will you marry me?"

And I'm all "GSDFHHIUhfiauehlahdg762398470fahsdkfjhgIT*^RFIJK....YESSS!"

Right there in the middle of O'hare!

Now I always thought I would BAWL immediately but I didn't. Blame it on the drugs, the shock, who knows.

BUT THEN. After some hugs, I turn around and see DAD. I've always been a huge daddy's girl so I think seeing his face, for whatever reason, really made it sink in. Aaaand que hysteria.

Copy paste the same face on my mom, sister and best friend/roomie and you've got the setting. Oh and add in some clapping strangers.

Oh and while this is a novel, might as well include the ring!

I love it SO much!

I couldn't honestly say whether I would pick it for myself or not but that's because I'd never seen anything quite like it before. Having seen it now, I could never imagine anything else!

And I REALLY can't imagine my life without my amazing FI!

Thanks for listening to the gush-a-thon :-)

@Newfie - I totally agree, Newfoundland is the most beautiful province! It's probably the most beautiful place I've ever been period. I can hardly wait to go back and explore more! We did Port Aux Basque up to St Anthony, so we need to do the east coast next. Love love love it! We're talking about renting a cottage and spending an entire summer in Gros Morne :)

Mr B and I had been planning a trip to the East coast of Canada for a couple months this past summer. We renovated an old 1973 Winnebago back to front, top to bottom. It was an ambitious project. I had a gut instinct Mr B was going to propose during the trip but was trying not to get my hopes up JUST IN CASE. Could you imagine driving back from Newfoundland with one angry un-engaged woman?!

After a heck of a lot of work, we hit the road on a Monday evening. We spent the night just outside of the city with my parents so we could miss the Toronto traffic in the morning. In the morning, we were saying our goodbyes out on the front lawn with my parents. There were lots of hugs and kisses all around. My dad looked around very excited asking "Can I say something? Can I say something?" Mr B and I were expecting something along the lines of "Have a great trip! Here's $50 towards your first tow!"... Instead my Dad looked at my Mom and said "I just wanted you to know, Mr B has asked for my permission for Bakerella's hand in marriage and I said yes." Dad was proud as punch. Mr B looked like he watched a puppy get run over. I burst out laughing as my Mom looked at Mr B and said "Never ever tell Dad anything! Don't you know that?! The man CANNOT keep a secret!!!" Mr B, Mom and I laughed until tears streamed down our cheeks while Dad innocently looked around asking "What??? What????" When we were finally in a semi-composed state, Mr B simply said "Well, do you want your ring?", and obviously I said YES!!!! Mr B went to the RV to get the ring and when he got back, he got down on one knee (still on my parents front lawn!!!) and told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. Again, another resounding yes, and tears for a whole different reason!

Two footnotes to this story. First, the whole time Mr B was down on his knee, my mother was weeding in the garden. When my Mom weeds, she throws everything behind her. I was dodging weeds during Mr B's proposal while my Dad was pulling on my Mom muttering "Get up! This is kind of important!" Ahhhh true to my family's style...

Secondly, according to my Dad, Mr B had given him permission to tell people about our engagement as soon as we were "out of Toronto". Dad took the meaning quite literally as my parents house is about 1km from the Toronto border. I can safely say I'm sure there are not many brides out there who have been proposed to by their father!!!!
