FI and I met seven years ago when I decided to try Historical Ballroom Dancing lessons. It only took a week or two for me to fall hopelessly into a deep crush. Being a good dancer and somewhat a flirt I'd say he brought it on himself. But nothing more came of it at the time and my infatuation turned into friendship. Eventually I joined the performance group at that dance Academy. Their were only sixteen of us; we practised three to four times a week and spent the other evenings at the movies, in coffee shops or at each others places, sharing our obsessions with costuming, Doctor Who, books, geekdom and of course dancing.
But as is nearly always the case with dance groups, it eventually came to an end with many members pairing off and getting married, moving on to family life and moving interstate. FI and I hung around for a while, but as the only remainders it wasn't the same. After a while, one of our dancing friends suggested FI start teaching me the other dance style he loved. After a month or so of spending Friday evenings learning Modern Jive in FI's loungeroom we started going out to town on Saturdays as well, and then watching movies on Mondays, and on July 5th 2010 he turned to me and kissed me to the closing credits of Fight Club. And so started a new kind of friendship, one to last for the rest of our lives.
