- Wedding: May 2012
I knew before we even got engaged that I wanted a vineyard wedding. We’ve spent so many summer afternoons sipping wine in the rolling countryside, it seemed like the best reflection of us as a couple and our tastes.
At first I wanted a completely outdoor wedding with a tented reception, but costs and some concerns about practicality (wet grass? stuck heels?) had us looking for an indoor reception venue. We live in Northern Virginia and didn’t want to stray too far. About an hour away we found Old House Vineyards in Culpeper, VA:
We’ll be getting married on an island in the middle of lake, with an ambiant fountain in the background. The island seats up to 150, perfect for our wedding of around 125 guests.
The reception is in a pavillion just a short walk away, and is the perfect blank slate. Draped fabic and white lanterns cover the roof and emulate the tent-effect I’d originally wanted. We’ll be bringing in our own caterer and linens.
