So me and my boyfriend met when were were in diapers. My mom knew his dad and aunts and uncles from when they were teenagers- she even dated his uncle at one point! Our families have been close enough that I called his family "Uncle Xxxx" and "Aunt Xxxx." In fact, his uncle passed away recently, and I was more beat up than he was- he'd only met this uncle once. Said uncle also left me with a couple of gemstones, one of which I hope to have in my engagement ring one day.
We played together as children; he came over every summer, from about the time we were two until we were six or seven. One summer he even stayed the entire break! He was such a sweet little boy; I used to tell my mom I was gonna marry him one day because "I had him trained." XD I was like four, though.
Then we only saw each other once in about a ten year period.
Well, in my junior year, with prom coming up, my mom and his aunt cooked up a scheme for us to go together. His aunt sent me a friend suggestion of Facebook, so I added him and left it be. A couple of weeks later, he messages me on Facebook, as he finally remembered who I was. We didn't get close in time for prom, but early that summer he came down, and we spent three whole weeks together and began dating. On my eighteenth birthday, he presented me with a promise ring and blurted out, "Will you marry me?" I said yes, and although we decided later that he wanted to give me a real engagement ring and do an actual proposal (rather than blurting something at the last minute!), I've always known he was the one I wanted to marry.
PS: My screen name has to do with the fact his last name is the name of a bird. So our thing has always been that quote from The Notebook: "If you're a bird I'm a bird."
