We had recently closed on a house so all of our spare time was spent working on renovations, cleaning, and getting it ready for us to move in. It was starting to take a toll on me and I kept saying how I just couldn't wait for it to be done! Luckily a vacation was just around the corner...before we had purchased our house we had planned a vacation to the Bahamas for the last week in August. I had a slight feeling he was going to propose on vacation, but I was wrong!
We left for vacation on a Monday; the Friday before we were working at our house and he mentioned taking a trip to the beach to get "beach pizza" that night as a way to kick off our vacation week. (Beach pizza is square pizza that we get at the beach...it's just what we call it, and it's always been a "thing" between us). That day I also luckily had a nail appointment! I went to my nail appointment and he went to get a hair cut-nothing out of the ordinary.
We took the drive to the beach, picked up the pizza and headed off to find a spot to eat it on the beach. Well, it was SUPER crowded and he kept saying how he couldn't believe how many people were there. I kept saying DUH it's beautiful out and it's one of the last weekends of summer!
He kept driving up the coast and we finally found a place that was empty. We ended up sitting on a wall overlooking the ocean and just talking. Oddly, he mentioned he had watched an episode of "Say Yes to the Dress" that day while I was out. I said I couldn't believe he watched it without me! Then we started talking and I said "when am I going to get to say yes to a dress??" He brushed it off like he always did and said, "I'm not saying anything." Which of course made me frown and respond with a "what the heck!"
After we were done eating we decided to go venture out on some rocks to see if we could find some shells. When we were out there I told him to skip some rocks (I know, so demanding!) so he did. However, he was AWFUL. Usually he's SO good and can skip them atleast 6 times. I kept asking what the heck is wrong with you, do it right. He said he didn't have the right rock and asked me to find him a perfectly flat rock. So, I turned around and started searching for just the perfect rock. When I found the one I turned around, and there he was down on one knee with the most beautiful rock of all!! It took me a few seconds to register what was happening, but once it did I was so excited and full of emotions.
He caught me completely off guard and I am so happy he did it when I wasn't expecting it. This way I had a few days to celebrate with family and friends...and then come Monday we were off to the Bahamas to celebrate our engagement!
