I have four bridesmaids, each of whom were my important confidants during various times of my life.
My bridesmaid Jenn has been my best friend since second grade. We met when her family moved to Wyoming from Greece (lucky girl), since her dad is in the Air Force. We have all the growing-up memories together. Unfortunately, the Air Force moved them to the DC area four years later. I visited her once when I was 14, but now that Mr.Gnome and I live in the area we finally get to see a little more of each other.
Jamie was my first new, really good friend after Jenn moved away. We met in honors classes in 7th grade and in 9th grade her family took me in for a month while my parents were with my littlest brother at the Children's Hospital in Denver. We love 10 Things I Hate About You, adult beverages, and in general having gab fests. She's my super Type-A personality bridesmaid who loves planning and organizing and finding deals on dresses.
I made friends with Aubrey in high school through another set of friends (she and Jamie don't really know each other even though we all went to the same high school). We always ate lunch together. After college when I moved back to Wyoming we worked in the same office, hung out watching movies all the time, etc. We share a love of literature and often lament together the uselessness of our degrees in the subject. She'll be doing a reading out of literature for me in the ceremony.
Korrin is the only roommate I consistantly lived with during my three years of college, though we always had other roommates as well. We loved avoiding homework together by taking walks, driving to the Dairy Queen across town, and staying up late talking about everything. She was there for me when Mr. Gnome and I first got together (and when everything blew up with his roommate/ my ex).
Though none of them know each other very well, if at all, I am excited to bring togetehr all these wonderful girls from different parts of my life to be in my wedding.
But, as you see, no one is labeled "Maid of Honor." I think I've come to the point where I've decided not to have one at all. They are all really important to me and I don't want to say one is more important than another, even though I've known some longer than others, etc. Some of them are also more suited to some MOH activities than others; for example, Jenn HATES public speaking and I don't want to force her to make a speech, while Jamie was a debater in high school and talking in front of people is her strong point. Aubrey was always going to read a passage from literature for me and Korrin is willing to help me with any and everything. I just don't want to/ can't bring myself to choose one over the other so I am dividing the duties instead.
