Yeah, he bought some new swim trunks with zippered pockets and tested them out for a while to make sure it wouldn't leave his pocket in the water. Once we were there he said he checked on the ring a million times to make sure it was still there. I didn't catch on to anything though so he's pretty sneaky!

Two days into our much-needed vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii, we went snorkeling. I've only been one other time in Honoloulou but I was having a lot of trouble getting in and out of the water at the "beach" we were at since it was very rocky with lots of lava rocks to try and maneuver getting in and out of the water and I had snorkel fins on to boot. He was already in the water and he called me over because he found something "really cool" he had to show me. I managed to get into the water without falling or tripping somehow but when my face went into the water my mask fogged up really bad.
Annoyed and practically blinded by my fogged up mask, I was squinting really hard trying to see this "really cool thing" and I couldn't see anything! I look over at him and he's like, frantically pointing to his hand or something.
I exaggeratingly shrugged my shoulders at him and rubbed at my mask with my hands to demonstrate that I couldn't see a thing! He still continued to point frantically to his pinkie finger.
I swam a little closer. Umm, it was something shiny? He found something shiny?
I got closer. Oh, he found a ring?
My face was just inches away from his hand. Oh well, that looks like a pretty nice ri---WAIT A SECOND! YOU DON'T JUST FIND REALLY NICE RINGS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN!!!!
I slowwwwlllyyy surfaced and took off my foggy mask to look at him.
He asked, "Did you see what I had?"
"Uh huh", I croaked.
"So will you marry me?"
"What? What? Where did you get that?!" I said breathlessly.
He laughed and he said "Uh att the store! I've had it for weeks and I've been planning this for a long time! So you still haven't answered my question..."
"Oh. Well of course!" And at this point, I kind of forgot how to tread water, breathe, and put together normal thoughts and sentences so I choked on some seawater.
I asked him to please hold it for me as we swam back to shore so I didn't drown.
When I reached the rocky shore, I tried to climb out but I lost my balance. When I reached down to catch myself, I sliced my finger wide open on something underneath the water. I was worried that I might need stitches but I sat there happy as could be with my beautiful new ring on my ring finger and then my pinkie finger bleeding everywhere for a couple hours. As my FI tried to make it out of the water, the waves pushed him into one of those black spiky anenomes (yeah I think they are poisonous, not sure). He stepped out of the water and there were about 5 poky black quills sticking out of his leg! There were a good 7 inches long or so! When he pulled them out they left these weird ink/tattoo-looking spots on his leg for about a week. My finger and his leg healed up perfectly fine but at the time we joked that we might have some engagement day scars to remember this amazing day together forever :)
