My proposal story is so wonderful that I just have to share it! I am currently a nursing student and have had quite a stressful semester. Brent has been amazing supporting me with school and I am so grateful for it! With my schedule and his, I have weeks where we don't see each other unless it is the weekend. The week of December 2nd was no exception. I had last seen him on December 1st and was patiently waiting for the 8th which was our planned date of the week.
We had gone ring shopping on our 18 month anniversary, November 21st, but I wasn't sure when he was planning on popping the question and honestly I had kind of set my mind that it wouldn't be until my semester calmed down and I relaxed on December 17th.
Well after a roller coaster ride of a week with helping deliver a baby, getting in a car accident (I'm fine!), and lots of craziness at work, I got home on the 8th really looking forward to just having some quiet time with him. He told me he was coming up early which I found a little weird but didn't think much of it.
When he arrived, I got a kiss under my mistletoe :) Behind his back was a Christmas stocking. We went over to my couch to sit down and he told me that St. Nick had brought my stocking to his house. I thought his story was so cute because I had moved out of my parents home this year and along with that move, I lost a lot of my traditions and communication with my family. The stocking was special, as it matched all the stocking his family has and my name was stitched up on top. I was truly touched. I opened up it to find a ton of hershey kisses and some more candy, which made me very happy!!
At this point, I had no idea what was coming. I really had my mind set that he wasn't going to ask for a couple of weeks. Down at the bottom of the stocking was a Shopko bag and a small wrapped box about 6 in by 4 in by 1 in. The Shopko bag had special gloves from his mom and then he told me the little box should probably stay flat and is taped. I instantly thought that he had picked out a Christmas ornament for our tree as we had started that tradition last year!
When I opened it, I pulled off the lid to find a small stocking with a stuffed baby turtle (my favorite animal) sticking out of the top. My ring was around the turtles neck and the stocking said, "Pam Will you marry me?" I instantly went speechless. I must have looked between his face and the ring for a half a minute before he pulled the ring off himself and asked me if I was going to answer him. I said Yes! Of course Yes! and he put the ring on my finger. I probably spend the next 30 minutes completely speechless, looking at my hand, hugging and kissing him. Talk about surprised!
Turns out, he got the ring the night before from the jeweler. He had spent the past week looking for the baby turtle which took going to 12 different stores and calling a couple of zoos and other places. He finally found one at Toy-R-US in the baby section as it was a finger puppet and sold with two other animals... I think that might be a very good omen for us down the road!
