It was Saturday, 12 August 2006 - I had only been 18 for about 4 months when my friend Mandy wanted to go to the local Irish Pub for some drinks.
It was just the two of us, after we were there for awhile Mandy bumped into an old friend Lyn who I had never met, she had a few drinks with us and we all went out onto the dance floor. Mandy eventually got tired and went to get another drink and sit down but Lyn and I were having too much fun so we kept dancing, I'm not exactly sure when/how it happened but all of a sudden Lyn was dancing with this random guy who looked a little like a young Tom Cruise.. So there I was dancing awkwardly alone while she was making her moves on Tom Cruise. I see them start to whisper to each other and smile then the next thing I know Tom Cruise is pointing to this guy over near the dance floor chatting with some other guys, I looked at him and my first thought was “Oh My God! He has the most amazing smile I have ever seen” but we both just looked at each other awkwardly and smiled nothing more.
A few more drinks and a lot of dancing later I find myself face to face on the dance floor with Mr Sexy Smile!! after looking at each other awkwardly again, we started dancing. The next thing you know we are kissing, I didn't even know his name and we still hadn't uttered one single word to each other! (shame on me)
We end up talking and I find out that his name was Ric, he was 22 and he owned his own business, I in my drunken state didn't believe he was 22 because he looks about 18 like me.. I make him show me I.D and everything..
At the end of the night he and his friends are leaving at the same time my friends and I are, we stood out the front staring at each other holding hands (I still think he expected me to go home with him but I'm SO not like that – just ignore the fact that I kissed him before I knew his name for a moment!), then he asked for my number and I gave it to him..
Our first time seeing each other after that night we went to a movie with Mandy and her boyfriend and made out the whole time like we were in high school (I still practically was, I had only graduated 8 months before), our second "date" was dinner and a movie at his house, he had to go pick up some of his movies from his friend Paul and when we got there he introduced me as Karen... WAIT WHAT..? My name is Carly dude..! It was so embarrassing but at the same time hilarious, we still laugh about it to this day because he swears that I told him my name was Karen when I gave him my number.
6 years later.. I never saw Lyn again after that night, I don’t speak to Mandy anymore, Mr Tom Cruise is actually Ric’s lovely friend Dan who is now happily married with 3 beautiful children and I am with the most amazing guy in the world, and his smile still takes my breath away!
